Letters from Rose Lee
Letter No. 001
Written with love from behind the lens
When people hear the words "courthouse wedding," they often picture something quick and simple.
Justin and Rachel's wedding day was proof that simple doesn't mean any less meaningful.
Their wedding wasn't defined by the size of the guest list or an extravagant venue—it was defined by the people who stood beside them. Immediate family. Lifelong friends. Laughter echoing through the courthouse halls. Happy tears. Proud smiles. And two people who couldn't stop looking at one another.
Sometimes that's all a wedding really needs.
A Day Centered Around What Matters Most...
From the moment I arrived, there was a peaceful excitement in the air. Family members hugged one another, friends gathered together sharing stories, and everyone waited for the moment these two would officially become husband and wife.
One of my favorite things about intimate weddings is that there is never a rush to impress anyone. The focus stays exactly where it belongs—on the couple.
Every smile, every hand squeeze, every quiet glance carried so much meaning because everyone present was there for one reason:
To celebrate Justin and Rachel.
Their First Kiss as Husband and Wife...
One of the sweetest moments of the day came immediately after they were announced husband and wife.
As they made their way back down the aisle, surrounded by cheers from the people who love them most, they paused for one more kiss while silver ribbon wands danced all around them.
It wasn't planned.
It wasn't posed.
It was simply them.
Those are the moments I live for as a photographer.
The Little Moments That Tell the Story...
Wedding days are made up of thousands of tiny moments that often become the most treasured memories later on.
Like...
- Dad proudly waving the ribbon wands and making everyone laugh.
- The beautifully coordinated navy, burgundy, and ivory color palette.
- The carefully chosen details, from the invitations to the rings and florals.
- Quiet portraits together in downtown Carbondale, where the city became the perfect backdrop for their first photographs as husband and wife.
- The joyful cake cutting.
- Family members sharing stories and celebrating around the reception.
None of those moments lasted very long.
But together, they tell the complete story of the day.
Downtown Carbondale Portraits
After the ceremony, we wandered through downtown Carbondale for portraits...
I absolutely loved the contrast between the elegant wedding attire and the character of the alleyways and historic architecture. The soft afternoon light wrapped around them beautifully, creating images that feel both timeless and uniquely theirs.
Some of my favorite portraits happened simply because Justin and Rachal forgot about the camera for a moment.
They laughed.
They held hands.
They looked at each other the same way they had all day—with excitement about everything that was ahead.
Those are the photographs that never go out of style.
Surrounded by Their Favorite People...
One thing that stood out throughout the entire day was just how loved these two are.
Every hug felt genuine.
Every smile was contagious.
Every guest celebrated as though they had gained another member of the family.
As photographers, we're invited into one of the most meaningful days of someone's life. It's a privilege I never take lightly, and witnessing the love surrounding Justin and Rachal reminded me why I love photographing intimate weddings just as much as grand celebrations.
Love isn't measured by the number of guests.
It's measured by the people who choose to stand beside you.
Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Polovish...
